The Dreaded... Meta

The Dreaded… Meta Please note that this article was originally written in 2023... and shortly before I took a two year break from the game, so take that how you will. This is inspired by a recent episode of the Rogue Agents podcast, which is excellent and I would highly recommend. This episode had a long discussion on the generally negative atmosphere within many of the discussion communities in the game right now, the impact of that on the playerbase and what steps might be taken to address it. I think it is undeniable that the atmosphere within many areas of the community has shifted towards a more negative footing. This has been particularly notable to me since Malekith hit the scene, but even before then I was personally growing somewhat frustrated with the immediate reaction to anything that wasn’t obviously extremely powerful being that the piece in question was ‘trash’ or ‘worthless’. I will say up front though that I don’t think everything within Marvel Crisis Pro...

The Dreaded... She-Hulk

The Dreaded… She-Hulk Please note that this article was originally written in 2022 From The Dread Dormammu to the Dreaded Baron Zemo, there’s no character in Marvel Crisis Protocol which can be taken lightly. Sometimes you just need to understand why it is someone might be worried about seeing that particular thing across the table from them. Today let’s look at The Dreaded… She-Hulk. Jennifer Walters was just a simple big city lawyer before she received an infusion of blood from her cousin to save her life following a terrible accident. That’s not normally a big deal, but when your cousin is THE INCREDIBLE HULK, side effects might include becoming big, green and occasionally very, very angry! She-Hulk is an interesting character and one that Marvel Crisis Protocol presents in a fascinating light. Whilst she and her cousin share certain similarities, there’s far more that separates them whilst ensuring that both are very much worth their considerable six threat price tag....

The Dreaded… Sin and Crossbones Please note that this article was originally written in 2023 From The Dread Dormammu to the Dreaded Baron Zemo, there’s no character in Marvel Crisis Protocol which can be taken lightly. Sometimes you just need to understand why it is someone might be worried about seeing that particular thing across the table from them. Today let’s look at The Dreaded… Sin! (And also Crossbones) A first for this series! Today I’m going to look at not one but two characters! Sin, the daughter of the malevolent Red Skull, and Crossbones, one of Hydra’s more notable goons and an extremely capable mercenary in his own right – who happens to be Sin’s main squeeze!   Sin and Crossbones have been around for a long time – in fact, Crossbones was one of the first characters released in the game, being in the core set and remaining unchanged to this day. They share affiliations in Cabal, Criminal Syndicate and Hydra, and there’s a lot more interesting things ...

Sometimes you just need to understand why it is someone might be worried about seeing that particular thing across the table from them. Today let’s look at The Dreaded… Masters of Evil! After a long time away dealing with one real world crisis after another, I’ve finally been able to get some games back in and I want to try something a little different here by talking about a leadership ability and affiliation I feel has fallen out of favour a fair amount in the modern meta – the one belonging to one of the very first characters in the game, Red Skull’s Master of Evil: I don’t want to talk about Red Skull himself because, honestly, there’s little I could talk about here that wasn’t covered fantastically by Lexa’s article: The Jank Emporium #1 – Out of Affilia...

The Dreaded... MODOK

The Dreaded… MODOK From The Dread Dormammu to the Dreaded Red Skull, there’s no character in Marvel Crisis Protocol which can be taken lightly. Sometimes you just need to understand why it is someone might be worried about seeing that particular thing across the table from them. Today let’s look at The Dreaded… Machine Organism Designed Only for Killing! MODOK was one of the first characters released outside the core set, and for a long time he was an absolute terror – able to gain and then spend power better than any other character in the game, he has dropped off somewhat in popularity since he was retuned in the card pack update, but he’s still one of the most dangerous characters in the game and well worth his 5 threat! There’s an awful lot of text on MODOK’s card and a lot of it synergises together to become more than the sum of its parts, so let’s break down the core components that make MODOK so potent. Firstly there’s the Psionic Blast. A 6 die attack at range 4 w...
